RJV in running for 2023 Earth Award for PMH Demolition & Remediation

1 September, 2023

RJV has been announced as a finalist in the CCF WA 2023 Earth Awards in the category of $10 – $30m for our work on the demolition and remediation of the former Princess Margaret Hospital site.

The CCF WA Earth Awards are the Western Australian civil construction industry’s annual celebration of infrastructure excellence, celebrating our industry, showcasing WA projects, and recognising the talent and commitment of the dedicated project teams. There are seven award categories, from projects valued under $2 million to projects valued over $150 million.

About the project

The demolition and remediation of Princess Margaret Hospital commenced in October 2020, and is one of the largest projects of its kind undertaken in an urban setting in Western Australia. It was also one of the most high-risk, requiring significant asbestos removal, the sensitive treatment of important heritage elements, and innovative solutions for managing its technically challenging location.

Further, the project had several targets for Aboriginal engagement and recycling. Following a competitive tender process, RJV was appointed by DevelopmentWA to undertake this complex and pivotal project.

26 months later in December 2022, the project was completed successfully and with an impeccable safety record with no lost time injuries and zero safety and environmental non-conformances. It exceeded its targets: recycling 99.5% of materials and awarding 6.5% of the total contract value to Aboriginal businesses.

The demolition and remediation of the PMH site was a key milestone along Subiaco East’s pathway to becoming a new landmark inner-city residential and mixed-use precinct.

Winners will be announced at the 2023 Earth Awards Gala Dinner on Friday, October 6 at Crown Perth.
