Description of Works
RJV Contracting was awarded the TSF8 Stage 2 Embankment Works at the Telfer Gold operation.
Scope of Services
- Construction of 6m tailings embankment lift
- Source and place rock for bulk embankment fill
- Source and place low permeability clay material for tailings lift
- Construct saddle dam lift including spillway construction and rock protection
- New decant causeway construction
- Landbridge construction to downstream embankment
- Placement of geo-fabric between existing embankment infrastructure and new material
- Installation of aggregate curtains and subsoil drainage for leak detections systems within the embankment walls
- Approx 1.8 million cubic metres of embankment constructed

Key Challenges
- Significant dust from existing tailing dam – RJV provided additional operators to operate client provided water carts
- Communications on site were slow – RJV installed at their own cost a Starlink Service to improve external communication and reporting
- Machine parts availability – RJV improved parts stock holding on site and quickly responded to breakdowns and scheduled maintenance
- Working around the existing decant and return water pipeline RJV had to maintain flexibility in approach to ensure the client’s deposition strategy was adhered to

- Significant equipment availability, and a peak of up to 70 items of plant and equipment were operating onsite at a time
Innovation
RJV implemented a Navman Fleet Management Systems to track equipment usage and availability. All trim works were completed with GPS enabled equipment to a precise construction tolerance.
