Description of Works
RJV Mining Services was awarded the expansion of the existing tailings storage facility package at BHP’s Mt Whaleback Mine.
Scope of Services
- Raising of the existing tailings wall by 2m
- Raising 3 existing dam walls and 2 saddle dam walls
- Removal and relocation of pipe networks
- Installation of spillways
- Rock cladding and wearing course material placement
- Construction of access ramp spillway and rock fill drains

Innovation
This project was conducted whilst mining operations were ongoing, and the safety requirements were elevated. Leadership in the field became critical and management regularly visited the sites to monitor the progress and the site teams.
