Description of Works
RJV Mining Services was awarded the Granny Smith Cell Stage Raise and Earthwork closure packages by Gold Fields Australia.
Scope of Services
- Raising existing embankment on tailings storage cell
- Construction of new embankment sections including winning, loading, hauling and final placement of suitable material from borrow
- Raising decant causeway and tower

Key Challenges
- Managing tyres due to the 12km long haul selecting the correct TKPH for the dump trucks. The in-situ material was extremely hard on the equipment tyres.
- Height of the dam wall meant a long up uphill haul which meant that operators required training to operate the trucks correctly.
- Construction water was available only at the top of the dam wall which meant that smaller water trucks had to be used due to the width limitations.
