Key Challenges

The Boddington Waste Dump Expansion project was completed within the extent of the Boddington Mine area and required RJV to adhere to the strict dieback and sediment control practices set forth by Newmont. RJV’s site facilities were located remotely from the mining services areas and required RJV to establish and maintain a remote workshop facility to maintain the nearly 50 items of plant and equipment allocated to the project. RJV also had to compete with the seasonal challenges of the site, with water restrictions in place throughout summer months, and trapped heavy fog inhibiting operations in the winter months.

RJV Advantage

RJV’s local network of personnel resources meant that people were sourced where possible from Pinjarra and the Peel region, providing local knowledge and high project retention rates. RJV’s fleet of plant and equipment was optimally selected to ensure effectiveness in the tight constraints of channel excavation and wet well construction areas. The use of RJV’s internal twin engine powered 657 scrapers also provided the necessary bulk earth movement of cut to fill to ensure program compliance on the project.

Innovation

Significant use of 3D modelling and GPS controlled equipment.
