As part of the Subi East Development and on behalf of the Western Australian State Government via Landcorp, RJV have been appointed to carry out demolition and remediation works to the iconic Subiaco Oval.
This project involves raising the existing embankment on a tailings storage cell and the construction of a new embankment section including win, load, haul and place suitable material from borrow. The decant causeway and tower are also required to be raised.
RJV re-established the mining operation at the Siberia Mine Site and are currently mining the Sandking Pit as part of the Davyhurst Gold Project. RJV commenced work in May 2017 and we anticipate the full scope will for 3-year period to include the drill & blast and load & haul of ore and waste.
Works scope undertaken to date has included:
Construction of haul roads, access roads and drainage
Construction and sheeting of ROM pads and Magazine area
Bulk Earthworks for the last 17.5 km section of railway embankment
In December 2013 RJV was awarded the Landside Bew Package 3 for the Roy Hill Mine site for Samsung. The works involved Bulk Earthworks for the last 17.5 km section of railway embankment including rail loop, stockyards, drive station and terminal yards. The project required cut and fill of approximately 10 million cubic metres of pindan / sandy gravels over hauls of up to 16 km.
The timeline for the works was very tight with a requirement of up to 25,000 m3 of cut to be moved each day during peaks for extended periods, over both day and night shift.
The Nova Nickel “Mine Access Road’ and “Aerodrome” are required to service the proposed Nova Nickel mine located in the Goldfields region of WA as part of Sirius’s Nova Nickel Project.
The “Mine Access Road” is approximately 35km in length and now connects the Nova Nickel mine site and camp to Eyre Highway,
The “Aerodrome” is approximately 2km in length and services the Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) of workers to the mine site previously during the construction phase and now during the operation phase of the mine.
This project involved the raising of the existing tailings wall by 2m to a level of RL 591m to provide future tailing storage. This stage required raising 3 existing dam walls, 2 saddle dam walls and associated works such as removal and relocation of pipe networks, installation of spillways, rock cladding and wearing course material.
One of the biggest risks with this project was the management of traffic, particularly heavy construction equipment traffic in the narrow confines of the embankment crest. Mine waste material was moisture conditioned and loaded by 85t excavator into 50t articulated dump trucks in the stockpile area and hauled out to the different works fronts. The same access had to be used for entry and exit to this area. This operation, along with the multiple fronts being worked at once meant that pinch points were heavily trafficked and had to be managed carefully through strategic traffic management plans and constant radio communication between all vehicles.
Other miscellaneous tasks were undertaken on this project such as the construction of the extension of access ramp spillway and rock fill drains. These works were undertaken around the bulk embankment construction to ensure the most efficient program for the client.
RJV’s experience on detailed bulk earthworks projects such as this coupled with careful HSEQ management of the project saw this project completed on time, within budget and with zero incidents or accidents.
Construction of a 2.2km sealed airstrip, drainage & lighting
RJV completed the De Grussa Airstrip located within the De Grussa mine-site, approximately 170 km North of Meekatharra. One of the inaugural projects undertaken by RJV Mining services, the Aerodrome involved approx. 50,000 m3 of earthworks, 30,000 m3 of select fill pavement construction, 30,000 m3 of basecourse construction and 85,000 m2 of sealing works completed in a three coat seal.
In addition to the earthworks and pavement construction RJV supplied and installed all airside and apron navigational aids and lighting, including approach indicators and gable markers. Storm water around the aerodrome was managed through the construction of drainage channels and bunding, made effective by the use of our D10 dozers to rip through the hard clay pan and rock onsite.
The construction of the pavement courses involved the cartage of all materials from crusher stockpiles onsite, conditioning, placement and compaction up to 100% MDD. RJV was able to assist the client on the selection, crushing and production of base-course and select fill material suitable for the pavement course through close liaison with the contractor appointed to crush the feedstock from the pit. RJV’s expertise and knowledge of pavement construction meant that suitable materials were produced to achieve a consistent and workable pavement surface suitable for the intended use for the airstrip.
The tight timeframe for the project meant that RJV had to closely monitor works and progress to ensure that milestones were being met. The use of D10 dozers to rip insitu rock and hard clay pan material from cut areas as well as the large and maneuverable Hitachi 50T articulated dump trucks for cartage of materials from stockpile to final placement meant that RJV was able to meet production targets required to meet deadlines, whilst minimizing the need for unnecessary equipment onsite and easing the demand on existing road infrastructure that was already heavily trafficked due to the mining operations and camp facility construction works nearby.
This project, located in Coolgardie, involved the key-in and construction of new tailings walls into existing pit walls, placement of general fill and low permeability material for the embankments and the installation of aggregate curtains and subsoil drainage for leak detections systems within the embankment walls.
Working around the backfilled pit RJV were required to maintain current pumping operations and ensure that the operations of the minesite were unaffected by the expansion works. Using 50T Articulated Dump Trucks, 85T Excavators, 14M Grader and large 20T Rollers RJV were able to complete the project successfully with no incidents.
RJV also undertook clay capping to the existing waste rock areas forming the perimeter for the existing TSF and the installation of various drainage structures, drain channels, rock protection and toe protection details for the expansion works.
The project also included the cartage of rock fill and low permeability material across Great Eastern Highway from neighboring waste dump areas to make up the necessary material requirements for the expansion works.
RJV has completed works for BHP at Yandi on various earthworks maintenance projects including the landfill cell construction, flood bund rehabilitation and re-construction works and flood bund construction works.
RJV's 50T dump trucks, 85T and 45T excavators and D10 Dozers were particularly suited to the flood bund works which involved the reformation of flood bunds around the Yandi site in various soil conditions. Materials encountered ranged from alluvial silts and clays to very hard rock.
On the back of existing works onsite RJV was awarded increasingly larger portions of work for the Yandi site, including diversion channel works.
